Exploring Civic Technology in RomaniaJuly 30 2018
As a filmmaker and anthropologist, I will travel to Romania, a place often overlooked, to develop a documentary that tells the story of how Code for Romania (Code4Ro), a group activists is using civic technology to empower civil society and create new citizen-driven institutions in Romania.
At a time when democracy around the globe is threatened, I believe this story is critical. I want to explore the human dimensions of Code for Romania's story from multiple perspectives – Code4Ro activists, their families, citizens who use Code4Ro civic tools, Code4Ro’s government partners, academics, and other activists in Romania. With these perspectives, I intend to tell a story of how we as people become empowered, how we unite in the struggle across our differences, and to interrogate technology's role within this process.
